Parent Message 7-13-20

Dear Falcon Families,

This morning at around 11am it was announced that the district has made the difficult decision to start next school year fully online. The district will provide another update on Aug. 10th on the possible timeline to physically reopen schools along with instructions for the first week of online schooling. Please click this (Link) to see the joint announcement by Los Angeles Unified and San Diego Unified and click this (Link) to read the full statement by Superintendent Marten. Understandably, this announcement brings up many questions and concerns about what next school year will look like. At this time, there are still many details to be worked out. As I receive further information I will continue to send out updates to keep you as informed as possible. Thank you and please do your best to stay safe.

Sincerely,

Parent Message 7-12-20

Dear Falcon Families,

There are just a few new updates this week. I have included information about the senior pictures for the Class of 2021 and also included SDUSD’s statement regarding asking doctors from the University of California, San Diego to be a part of the safety review for the 2020-21 plan for reopening. I don’t anticipate having firm guidelines for re-opening for at least a few more weeks since the COVID-19 situation in California is rapidly changing. I will send out any and all info I have once I receive it. Below are the latest updates as of 7-12-20.

San Diego School Leaders Affirm Reopening Plans to be Based on Science, Research Expert Panel to Plan for School Reopening Conditions

At the request of San Diego Unified and the San Diego Education Association, the University of California in San Diego (UCSD) has agreed to contribute to the safety review for the opening of the 2020-21 school year. Home to some of the world’s leading authorities on pediatrics, public health, infectious disease and airborne transmission, UCSD will provide the academic and scientific experts necessary to support the safe reopening of schools. Here is the joint statement from the district and SDEA:

As we continue to work together to plan for the 2020-2021 school year, the first priority for educators and administrators continues to be the health and safety of our students, staff, families and community. We note with alarm the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases throughout California. Therefore, we want to take this opportunity to affirm that we will only resume on-site learning when it is safe to do so. The decision to resume on-site learning will be made only after extensive conversations and collaboration with public health officials, health experts, our educators, staff, and administrators. Together, we will provide for a safe and educationally enriching return to student learning, whether online or in person, on Aug. 31, 2020.”

Class of 2021 Senior Pictures

This summer, students from the Class of 2021 can go to Keane Studios to take their senior portrait. You are free to select from three categories of portrait sessions, from a completely free session designed for those who want only to be in the yearbook, to a multi-location, full studio session with your choice of many products. To make your appointment, go to www.keaneseniors.com. There, you will find samples of their work, a full price guide, clothing suggestions and a link to reserve your time. They have taken great care to create a safe environment there, meeting or exceeding county guidelines for a safe return. The studio is now in a new location west of I-15 off Rancho Bernardo Road. If you have been to their studio before, please note the new address:

16935 West Bernardo Drive, Suite 150, San Diego, CA. 92127

You can select whatever clothing you would like to wear for your personal session as well as your yearbook pose. The standard yearbook background is a classic Renaissance look, with blues and grays. We recommend for your yearbook pose to be wearing medium to dark solid clothing (no designs) and shoulders covered. Keane Studios will not be providing the traditional formal tops (gown or tux) for photos because of COVID regulations. Please come wearing what you would like to be photographed in.

Yearbooks

At this time, we are still waiting on our yearbook company to deliver the yearbooks physically to our site. The last update we received was that they would be delivered by the end of July, however, that may have now been pushed back due to the increasing COVID-19 situation in California. I’ll be sure to provide a date that families can come and pick up yearbooks once I receive it.

That is all of the updates for this week. I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
