Greetings SDSCPA Students and Families:
On behalf of the San Diego School of Creative & Performing Arts (SDSCPA), I am thrilled to welcome you to the launch of the 2017-2018 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with families, students, and faculty to ensure that our students achieve their highest potential as Scholars, Citizens, Professionals, and Artists!
As we celebrate the announcement of our 2017-18 Mainstage Artistic Season: And So We Rise!: A Season Dedicated to Blurring the Boundaries that Keep Us from Connecting, we begin by creating powerful learning partnerships with our SDSCPA staff, students, and families. These orientation days are an opportunity to connect through a shared vision for student success--if we are to engage the mind, we must engage the heart. To that end, we invite ALL students and parents to attend SDSCPA LAUNCH WEEK activities during the following dates and times:
Majors or Grade Levels
|Friday, August 18th||9am-12pm||6th Graders|
|Friday, August 18th||1pm-3pm||7th through 8th Graders|
|Monday, August 21st||9am-12pm||All Music, Visual Arts, and Interdisciplinary Majors (High School only)|
|Tuesday, August 22nd||9am-12pm||All Theater, Creative Writing, and Dance Majors (High School only)|
During these days students and families will:
- Take their yearbook and photo id photographs.
- Receive student schedules and pick up textbooks.
- We will also be working to create mentorship programs between middle and high school students and
- Review the school vision and school programs and supports for all students.
- Complete Student Information Packets
Friends of SCPA (FOSCPA), our parent and community foundation, will be on campus in the morning during the orientation to inform and recruit volunteers and share opportunities for increasing involvement with the SDSCPA community. It is an expectation that parents support the many diverse enrichment opportunities through FOSCPA—that allow SDSCPA to be the premier arts focused public magnet school in Southern California. We cannot do it alone! Get connected! Stay Connected! Contact FOSPCA president, Donna Silva- Garcia, at email@example.com to learn how you may help!
SDSCPA strives to create the standard for a rigorous and intensive dual curriculum in conservatory preparatory arts and university preparatory academics in grades 6-12. Consequently, instruction here is different—it must be approached with the art, through the art, and in the art. We look forward to a bright start of the school year!
Expecting great things,
Timothy E. Farson, Principal
