Dearest SDHS Caver Community,
Today, I was announced as the Superintendent finalist for the San Marcos Unified School District.
As I reflect over the past seven years during my tenure at our school, I could not have asked for a better experience working with SDHS faculty, students, staff, families and our surrounding community. I am very proud of our collective efforts to make a lasting difference for our students. SDHS has a storied legacy and I’m humbled to have been a part of it.
As you know, I’m living proof that a quality education can open doors of opportunities. I have aimed to do the same throughout my now 21-year career. This opportunity with San Marcos USD will afford me the ability to connect deeply with the north county community where I live and where my training, background and experience will enable me to work with the Board of Education, teachers, staff, parents, and higher education (Palomar College and Cal State San Marcos) to support the more than 21,000 students achieve their full potential.
Rest assured that our amazing work of supporting our students will not skip a beat because you have all contributed to our great work embedded within the SDHS collective efficacy approach. Our SDHS Framework has led the way toward creating a rigorous and equitable experience for all of our students and cross campus student engagement will continue to benefit and enrich our students’ academic experience. Together we have made it possible to ensure all students benefit from AVID, have increased AP and IB access, increased college matriculation and high school graduation rates, and as a result, more families are enrolling their children in our school. Our partnerships with the community including mentorships and internships, with local universities and with our parents have never been stronger.
In this period of anticipated transition, Area Superintendent Dr. Freire has identified Vice Principal Daniza Montero to serve as Interim Principal until the position is filled. I anticipate my departure date will be mid -October and will keep you apprised as developments unfold.
Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do to ensure our students reach their full potential.
