Welcome to Rowan! I am honored to be your principal. I began my career in education in 2003 at Central Elementary where I developed many strong ties to City Heights. I am grateful to continue to be working in this vibrant community. This will be my fourth year as the Principal of Rowan.
As an educator and a parent, I know the importance of a strong education. Every moment a child spends in school is precious. Their time in school affects how they learn and who they will become. Our goal at Rowan is to provide an educational experience that prepares our students to meet the opportunities and challenges of the 21st Century. We value the whole child, academic success, creativity, and the development of a love of learning.
We have a lot of plans in place to make the 2019-2020 school year a great year for learning and growing. We will continue the work that was started three years ago around RESTORATIVE CIRCLES. Teaching artists from Arts for Learning will again be working with students this year in dance, art, and drumming. Club 19, a student leadership group named in honor of Tony Gwynn, will be accepting new members throughout the year. Our Circle of Friends Club will be accepting applications in the Fall! Students who are selected to be a Circle of Friends Member will help to create an inclusive environment for all students on Rowan's campus. We are very fortunate to have Experience Corps return for a third year to provide extra reading support during Prime Time. In an effort to increase Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) activities, students will participate in Ocean Discoveries, a TK/K and 1st Grade STEAM INITIATIVE and a school-wide Science fair. Many more programs and opportunities are “in the works”…stay tuned!
Thank you for all that you do to make Rowan a wonderful school. Our motto is: BE KIND. BE BRAVE. BE RESPONSIBLE. DREAM BIG! GOOOOOO ROADRUNNERS!
