Meet Mr. Kupper our new Vice Principal

I’d like to thank everyone involved at PBMS for the opportunity to join your community!  I am very excited to join a school with such a variety of programs and such a distinguished history.

As a father of a six year old, Thomas, and an almost two year old, Catalina, I can empathize with where our families are in this wonderful journey of parenthood.  I share this journey with my beautiful wife Gina and our multinational family.

I was born in San Diego, yet spent much of my young adult life in Northern California earning my degree at San Francisco State University.  I had the wonderful opportunity to live and teach overseas at an American International School in Cartagena, Colombia; which is where I met my wife Gina.  Entonces, si hablo español como un costeño, and I understand the challenges it takes to dive into a new language and culture.  Always living along the coast, I enjoy surfing, sailing, cycling and all things in and on the water, which also makes my current favorite movie “Given”.

I’ve spent the last three years of my educational career as a Design Facilitator at Design39Campus in 4S Ranch.  That translates to an Assistant Principal to those outside of D39.  We set out to “change the way you do education”, and in doing so changed the names of just about everything as well.  I pride myself on being a design thinker, a novice innovator and a curator of creative confidence.  My passion is to inspire students, staff and communities into finding new ways of “doing”.  I thoroughly enjoy this challenge of being a facilitator of change.

Prior to Design39Campus, I was an English teacher and San Diego Area Writing Project Fellow at Chula Vista Middle School for an amazing thirteen years.  As a School of Creative and Performing Arts, I have a deep admiration to the dedication it takes for families and students involved in all areas of extracurricular activities.

I believe tudents should be at the center of everything we do because if we accomplish that task, our students will be prepared for anything that comes their way in both school and in life.  I am excited and look forward to working with the wonderful staff and community of PBMS to develop relationships that will carry us off into the future; because the future is a place WE create.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at kkupper@sandi.net.

I look forward to meeting all of you!
