Principal’s Message:

It is hard to believe this unprecedented school year is coming to an end. There are just 11 school days left. Please take this time to put in one last push for learning and improving grades. Any effort put into school right now will only help students next year. At this time, we are still scheduled to return to school on Monday, August 31. Additionally, new student orientation and schedule distribution is set for Tuesday, August 25. The SDUSD Board is engaging in a workshop on June 16 to determine what school will look like next year. PBMS will continue to send out messages during the summer with more information. We are really looking forward to safe, in-person instruction next year.

8th Grade Events:

Promotion: The administration, teachers, and staff would like to honor the achievements of our 8th grade students with a virtual promotion. The video will  include the traditional speeches and a slide show of our students. If you do NOT want your child included, please email Ms. Nelson at anelson@sandi.net by Tuesday, June 2.

Materials Collection & Distribution: The school is collecting materials from 8th graders on Tuesday, June 2. This includes musical instruments, textbooks, and library books. Students can also donate their gently used PE clothes and uniforms. Chromebooks may be kept over the summer only if students are returning to a SDUSD high school. The school will be distributing any remaining student materials left on campus, yearbooks (fingers crossed) and promotion certificates. More details and a survey will be posted this Tuesday. Please be sure to review all of the details prior to arrival. The procedure is very detailed and must be adhered to to ensure the safety of our staff and families. There are walk-up and drive through options. Due to excessive traffic in PB, we are encouraging the walk-up option with masks and proper social distancing. Thank you for exercising patience with this process.

Walk-through to High School: Prior to promotion, we have scheduled an 8th grade celebratory walk(or drive)-through to high school. Details will be included with the Collection & Distribution Procedures this Tuesday. Safety measures will be strictly enforced so please read the guidelines prior to the June 2 event.

6th & 7th Grade Materials Collection & Distribution: The school is collecting materials from 6th & 7th graders on Thursday, June 4. This includes textbooks & library books. Chromebooks may be kept over the summer only if students are returning to a SDUSD middle school. The school will be distributing any remaining student materials left on campus & yearbooks (fingers crossed). More details and a survey will be posted later this week.

*Yearbooks: Yearbooks are still available for purchase on-line until Sunday, May 31. Please visit the PBMS website to find the link. They have sold out for the past 5 years so order yours today. There may be some available for purchase during the collection & distribution events with prefilled checks made out to PBMS or exact cash (no change will be provided) if they do not sell out by May 31. The cost is $40. Ideally, yearbooks will be available for distribution at each event. However, the plant was shut down for a while and there may be delays in shipping. Our books shipped on May 22. If they do not arrive by the grade level distribution dates, they will be available on Monday, June 8 from 8:00am-12:00pm in the parking lot loop during the collection and distribution make-up day.

Construction:

  • In progress: Concrete was poured in the new office building and framing started. The new building is on schedule with below grade plumbing, electrical & communication, excavation, forms & rebar footings.

  • Summer: Summer work will include HVAC in the 400 & 500 buildings, an improved & accessible lunch court, and new staff lounge, teacher work room and supply room.

Attendance: Every Friday, teachers report attendance in PowerSchool. Attendance indicates access to or participation in class. PBMS is asking all students to complete their teacher’s “Attendance Assignment” before noon every Friday so that we can determine if students are able to access their classes in an efficient manner. Please remind your child to check Google classroom for every teacher for this assignment (check Canvas for Mr. Doom’s assignment). The staff is making calls home to assist with this process.

Grading: Teachers are entering grades for submitted work into PowerSchool. You can check on your child’s progress there. If you need help accessing PowerSchool, please reach out to Susan Fanno at sfanno@sandi.net. Grades under S2 show current progress. Please note that since the district adopted a “Do No Harm” policy, the lowest grade your child will receive for second semester, S2,  is marked under P4. The PBMS teachers encourage all students to engage in learning over the next 4 weeks to get prepared for next year. It is also a great time to improve overall grades.

PBMS Counseling Services: Please feel free to reach out to our counselors for any support you or your family may need during this time. Join the Google Classroom at h4m6kk2.
