· Uniforms Unify Us: Our Site Governance Team is collaborating with students and community members to address the concerns of our current uniform policy. Once an equitable policy is crafted we will be sure to share it with our community. In the meantime the school will continue with the policy listed on page 12 of the student planner which basically states that clothing must be solid navy, white, or khaki. Additionally, students may wear the following apparel from school clubs, community activities or ASB events that are currently approved: PB Locals, Future Bucs, School Yard Dash 5K, Missoula Children's Theatre, ASB, music, and school team jerseys (currently flag football, volleyball, and cross country on game day).
· Progress reports will go home with your student on Friday, October 20. Please be sure to ask your child for it. Please note that this report is a 6 week snap-shot which provides us an opportunity to see how our students are progressing during the 1st semester. It is a dynamic grade and does not become permanent until the end of the 1st semester in late January. It also prompts conversations about how to become successful in middle school. The counselors will review student progress across multiple classes to establish supports for success. Counselors will contact parents and invite them to a parent/teacher conference if their student is struggling in multiple classes. More information about “counseling conferences” will follow next week.
· MBHS 8th Grade Parent Night: Thursday, October 19 from 6:00-7:30 in the MBHS Library. This is an opportunity to learn about the amazing opportunities available to students at MBHS including IB Diploma Courses, Engineering pathway, Computer Science, Marine Science, The Arts, & Sports. GO BUCS!!
· Barnard Elementary is looking for student volunteers to help with running different literacy activities at their annual event, "Night of the Ghost Writers." Volunteers are needed from 4pm until 8pm on Friday, October 20. Interested students should contact either Amy Cheng firstname.lastname@example.org or Sunny Kim email@example.com.
o School Choice: School choice applications are due on Monday, November 13. Students currently enrolled will continue in the Mission Bay cluster so there is typically no need to complete an application. More information can be found on the district website at https://www.sandiegounified.org/neighborhood-schools-and-enrollment-options
o School Tours are in full swing. Please invite your neighbors and friends to our monthly tour so that families can learn about our programs. The next one is Thursday, November 2 from 8:00am – 10:00am.
o Student Drop Off: The new parking routine is going well in the mornings. However, we do have some lines to get in the lot. Thank you for being patient and don’t forget to pull forward, pull forward, pull forward. Here is the video link to remind you: https://youtu.be/-GZmUmKx4oI
o Supervision: Supervision begins daily at 7:10 and ends 5 minutes after the school day.
