Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I hope that you had a restful, fun-filled summer vacation! I am excited to be starting my 3rd full year serving you and your family. I would like to welcome new families to our community and share our common belief that it is through collaborative efforts in partnership that we are providing our students with a high quality educational experience.
One of the most important features of successful schools is a strong home/school partnership. We have been working together to strengthen our partnership every year to ensure our children’s academic success. The following are some suggestions, which the home can do to help support our student’s success at school. Set up good routines from the beginning, including schedules that have a definite time for homework, meals, sleep and morning preparation for arriving to school on time. Take a few minutes a day to look at and discuss your child(ren)’s homework. This allows you to monitor for completion and to see what your child(ren) is/are learning. Finally, keep open the lines of communication with the school regarding your child’s progress. When children perceive that both parents and teachers hold the same high expectations, they will rise to the occasion. I hope these tips will be helpful.
Additional ways to build a strong home/school partnership are to be a part of the PTA, School Site Council (SSC), and Governance Team (SGT) and to volunteer in the classroom. Without your support students will lose many rewarding activities such as field trips. Information explaining how to be a part of these opportunities will be sent home. I welcome and encourage all levels of parent involvement.
I look forward to working together for the mutual benefit of our students. I am confident that with our collective passion, conviction and commitment to excellence, we will provide our children with the best educational experience possible. We have many exciting things happening at Nye such as our peaceful playground, newly installed air conditioning and the return of our strong PTA members committed to supporting our students. Please feel free to contact me any time or come introduce yourself to me next time you are on campus.
