2017-2018 End of the Year Activities Criteria

Promotion Ceremony: The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 13th, 2018, from 8:00-9:00 a.m. for students with last names A-K and 9:30-10:30 a.m. for students with last names L-Z.  Students MUST be in attendance at school during their Advisory period in order to participate in the ceremony. This is NOT a formal event. Tuxedos and evening gowns are NOT appropriate. Girls should NOT wear high heels that would affect their ability to access the stage stairs and walk across the stage safely. Students should come to school in the morning dressed for the promotion exercise. All dress code rules apply. Students should dress as though they were attending a job interview. Seventh grade Correia siblings may attend with a note from parents delivered to the attendance office at least one day in advance. Child care is not provided. Sign out sheets will be available for parents to take their 8th grade student out early. We encourage parents who attend promotion to take your 8th grader home with you after the ceremony.

Monday, June 11, 8th Grade Celebration   

Tuesday, June 12, 7th & 8th Grade Field Day                                             

Wednesday, June 13, 8th Grade Promotion/Min. Day (Last Names A-K: 8:00-9:00; L-Z: 9:30-10:30)

 

Who will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony?We will use the 4thprogress report (final review June 2nd) grades to determine Honor Roll, Principal’s Honor Roll, Citizenship/Academic, Perfect Attendance, and Presidential Academic Awards for all eligible students.

 

How do students qualify to participate in 8thgrade end-of-year activities?Students must have good behavior with no “N” or “U” citizenship grades on the 4thprogress report (final review June 1st) and a minimum citizenship GPA of 2.0. In addition, there should be no suspensions in the last six weeks of the school year; no referrals for behavior; no excessive tardies; no truancies; no more than one F grade on the 4thprogress report and a minimum academic GPA of 2.0; and students must have satisfied all assigned detentions. In addition, students must have completed their CAASPP testing obligations and have no outstanding library or student fines (e.g., library, cafeteria, chocolate fundraiser, etc.)

 

What is required to participate in promotion activities? Eighthgrade students should not have more than one F grade in a core subject. Core subjects are: English, Math, Science, and History. Summer School:The Board of Education has determined that there will be no summer school for 8th grade students to make up F grades in the summer of 2018.
