Scott Thomason, Principal

Wow! As I sit here contemplating the beginning of my ninth year as principal of CPMA, I can’t help but reflect back to all of the amazing things we have done as a school over the past decade. In addition to the incredible arts programs and teachers our students are connecting with regulary, the school is now in its third year with our new Performing Arts Center (the PAC, as we affectionately call it). With the new PAC standing tall, CPMA has begun to live up to its title as crown jewel of the Clairemont community—never mind that I was the one who crowned it—the reality remains that CPMA has a reputation of producing amazing students who go on to shine in schools throughout the district.

As it has been for as long as I have been in education, I continue to stress the importance of family as I believe it is the single-most important factor in determining success in life. Parents (yes, I’m preachy), Make time with your kids. Be there for them, talk to them, and teach them. Be a role model you can be proud of, because I promise you, every action, good or bad, is a reflection of what they have learned from you.

Looking ahead, I continue to strive to build a school where our students are free to grow, to express, to laugh, to cry, and to be the best version of themselves. Perhaps, in an era where it seems students are more accepting, more open to uniqueness, more diverse than ever before, they can be the generation that teaches all of us how to truly live and let live. I am optimistic for the future because of who our kids are, not discouraged by what they are not. And that is what makes being a principal such a great job to have.

I look forward to getting to know you all as the days go by…
