The Cabrillo Elementary School Library was built with Prop MM funds. The library was dedicated to a long time teacher, Mrs. Barbara Bentley, who worked with many children. The library is a light, bright modern space. It houses an elementary (K-4) book collection downstairs and a conference room and offices upstairs. The interior courtyard has a small seating area and friendship garden. The exterior wall of the ramp was painted in an undersea theme by local artist, Dianne Abbott, the grandparent of students Caden & Dylan Farris. Students come weekly to check out books and hear a story and/or participate in an activity. Throughout the year the Library hosts the Scholastic Book Sales in order to get more books into students hands by boosting libraries at home and provide funding for our school library as well.
In the 2010-2011 school year, Cabrillo was awarded the RIF-Colgate grant, which donated over 100 new books to the facility. Most of the books had a health and wellness theme and can be identified by a red Colgate sticker on the cover of the book.
That same year Cabrillo Elementary was also awarded a $5,000 grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries.
In 2017 the Point Loma Optimists raised funds and awarded Cabrillo Elementary $12,400 to add technology and more books to the library. And again in 2018 the Point Loma Optimists donated another $8,400 to expand the technology in order to allow for 32 laptop computers, a cart to house the laptops and all the accessories to go with those laptops.
