Enrollment and School Choice Applications
CPMA is an arts magnet for middle school students, grades 6, 7 and 8. Students who plan to come to CPMA should be interested in pursuing rigorous academic study and the excitement of artistic endeavor. We find the students that are happiest and most successful at CPMA are children who need to dance, sing, act, play their instruments and/or create visual art every day to feel satisfied and complete.
New Student Enrollment:
Choice Enrollment: Students who live outside of the Madison Cluster must submit a School Choice Application to attend CPMA. Choice enrollment to CPMA is conducted through the district school choice lottery with preference given to students already attending district arts magnet elementary schools. Applications may be found here and must be submitted by November 13th for the 2018-2019 school year. Acceptances will be sent out in early March.
Neighborhood Enrollment: Student living within the Madison Cluster must submit an Enrollment Preference Request Card in order to enroll with CPMA. These cards can be obtained at neighborhood elementary schools beginning November 1st and must be returned to neighborhoods elementary schools by December 1st. Neighborhood students who do not turn in an Enrollment Preference Request Card will not be eligible to enroll at CPMA.
8th Grade Articulation to High School
CPMA does not have a high school that it directly feeds into. CPMA students either return to their neighborhood high schools or submit a choice application to attend high school as a choice student.
SCPA: SPCA provides the high school continuation of CPMA’s middle school program. All students interested in attending SCPA for high school must submit a school choice application and pass an audition. Auditions will be held at CPMA on November 9th, during the school day. Audition information, guidelines and rubrics are available online at: www.sandiegounified.org/scpa
Madison: While Madison is the cluster High School, CPMA students do not automatically transfer to Madison. If you live in the Madison cluster, you will need to work with Madison counselors to complete your enrollment. If you live outside of the cluster, you will need to submit a choice application for Madison and wait to be offered enrollment.
School choice applications can be found at www.sandiegounified.org/school-choice-application
