  • Congratulations to Bridgette Gaal Anderson, recipient of this year's "Lily Higman Outstanding Lifetime Volunteerism" Award! This award is given annually by the Barnard PTA to the parent of a graduating 5th grade student who has exemplified the spirit of volunteerism and dedication to our school during their student's years at our school. Like Lily did before her, Bridgette has demonstrated outstanding commitment, hard work, and generosity in service to our students and teachers throughout the past six years. Thank you for all you have done for Barnard, Bridgette!
  • Congratulations to Bonny Sobieck, Barnard's Classified Employee of the Year.
  • Mrs. Hernandez traveled to Anaheim on May 3 to accept Barnard's California Distinguished School award. The 2018 California Distinguished Schools Program recognizes California elementary schools that have made exceptional gains in implementing academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
  • On Sept. 15 Joshua, Giuseppe and Jaxon competed at the American Stars Scholastic Chess Tournament in Irvine. The boys took 1st and 2nd places. Special thanks to Coach Martin Nilsson from Chess Minds in Motion for his after school enrichment classes, tournament training and support.
  • Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School is pleased to announce that we have been named a 2018 California Distinguished School. Congratulations to our students and staff.
  • Congratulations to our Chess Team who just got back from San Jose where they participated in a US Chess Federation sponsored national chess championship tournament.These 4 second graders won the 3rd place team trophy for Barnard in the Age 8 and under section of the National Junior Chess Congress!!! It lasted 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) and the first day was brutal as our boys had to compete against players who had much higher ratings than them. Most of their opponents were part of the Top 200 8 year old chess players in the country! Special thanks to Martin Nilsson from Chess Minds in Motion for all the training and support!
  • Congratulations to all Barnard Students who competed and took home trophies for their participation in the Chinese Bridge Competition. This is a yearly competition sponsored by the Confucius Institute at San Diego State. Also a big thank you to our teachers and parents who helped the students prepare. Everyone's hard work payed off.
  • Several of Barnard's students and staff dressed up as Dr. Seuss characters to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on Friday, March 2.
  • Applications will be available online beginning Monday, March 5, 2018 at 6:00 am and must be completed and submitted online by Friday, April 13, 2018 at 9:59 pm. Applications faxed;, e-mailed, mailed, or hand delivered will not be accepted.
  • We are so happy to have nine CI guest teachers this year to help with our Mandarin program as well as with all the Chinese celebrations we have throughout the year. We are grateful for everything they can teach us about their culture.
