A TYPICAL DAY...

Are you visiting this web page and wondering what this class is like?  Or are you a student who was absent and wants to know what we did today?  Well, I am currently in the process of uploading class notes.  However, please read the following excerpt to get a general feel for the course.  I call it "A Day in the Life of Math Studies," and it is starring MY STUDENTS:

Ms. Z: So, guys, when I say something is not NOT happening, that means it is happening.
Let"s say I tell you it is not NOT raining outside.  Then, is it raining?
Araceli: I don"t get it.

Ms. Z: Yes you do get it.

Lesley: It isn"t raining.

Ms. Z: No, it is raining.

Araceli:But you just said it is not raining!

Ms. Z: That is not what I said.

Lesley: Ok it"s not what you said but it sounds like it because if something is not not then it

really is okay so if I say not not not not then it is I get it it"s just confusing.

Ms. Z: Well, okay, you sort of get it, but be careful, because if you say not not not, THEN...

Iris: Miss, this is confusing.
Ms. Z: Stephanie, help Iris.
Lesley: It IS confusing.

time).

Ms. Z:It is not confusing.

Tyler: It is. (Even though Ms. Z is pretty sure he 100% understands the concept).

Ms. Z:Guys (getting mad), this is NOT confusing.

Alex: Well, technically, if it isn"t raining, it could be raining, because it could be raining in,

say, Africa, so if the location hasn"t been specified, the problem may not be valid.
Jason: (Shakes his head at Alex)
Ms. Z: Well, we can assume that I will specify the place, but -

Lesley: Ok we get it. If it is not raining, it is raining.

Ms. Z: No. If it is not NOT raining, then it is raining.
Lesley: Ok that"s what I meant.
Ms. Z: But it is not what you said.

Iris: Yeah yeah yeah, ok, but miss, why did you say to be careful if it is not not NOT raining?

Ms. Z: Well, just, forget that I said that for now.
Stephanie: Iris, just forget about that.
Araceli: I still don"t get this.
