Senior Family Update - 5/17

Good Morning Marauders,

I hope you and your family are managing to stay safe and healthy during the closure! I wanted to first share a video with you that we have been working on for a little while. I hope you enjoy it! https://youtu.be/J9zlfHi4XjA

I also wanted to reach out today to shed some light on the on the upcoming events around graduation, cap and gown distribution, and yearbooks.

Graduation:
Graduation has been on the forefront of all of our minds right now as we head into the final push toward the end of the school year. As we began looking at plans for a virtual graduation, a drive up ceremony and a variety of other possibilities, we also had a group of students representing all the schools in the district provide feedback on their hopes for graduation. We now have a unified direction for how we are moving forward. Their top priority is that we still have an in-person graduation ceremony even though we will need to delay that until late July / early August. The board of education agreed that we should move forward with the planning for the in-person ceremony, so we are looking at what a ceremony could look like given the social distancing restrictions. Below are the graduation plans for MMHS.

      1. As we plan for the in-person ceremony we will need to consider breaking up the event into smaller groups of students to accommodate the need for social distancing. We will be investigating many options with our Senior class council and selecting the best option once we are provided the safety guidelines for that period of time. I do want all of you to know that if we are able to proceed with an in-person ceremony we will certainly jump at the chance! While we are staying positive that we will be able to work out a physical ceremony, we will also be prepared with a virtual ceremony if social distancing will not allow us to conduct an in-person ceremony.

      2. After looking at multiple platforms for the virtual graduation we decided that the best option for MMHS was to use the Jostens platform. We will be able to follow a traditional format where all the speakers are able to provide their speeches in addition to being able to celebrate all of our seniors individually. The counseling department will be working on slides with you individually, so be on the lookout for an email from your counselor. We discussed using the senior photos for the picture, but we also have another option for you (see the cap and gown section below). Now one thing that I want to communicate to you is the students on the district council did not want us to release the virtual graduation until after the in-person ceremony as to not duplicate the ceremonies. They were worried that it would take away from the physical graduation. So again, we will be prepared but will wait until it’s appropriate to release the video. The question then came up about what we would do on June 9th to recognize the Seniors if we are not holding a virtual graduation ceremony.

     3. Our solution for June 9th will be to have a celebration video for the seniors. This will be a fun moment for all of you to be able to share with your family. Plans are currently underway to make this a truly special video that can be shared with everyone at MMHS.

Cap and Gown distribution:
We will be handing out both the yard signs and the cap and gown packages next week on Wednesday 5/20 and Thursday 5/21. We will be sending out a communication on Monday detailing out the alpha breakdown for each day so that we are able to get cars thru without a large back-up of traffic. Please try your best to adhere to the schedule. I do have some additional news, our plan was just approved today for seniors who receive their cap and gown to have a picture taken in your regalia holding up a diploma cover in front of our MMHS backdrop. We hope that this will simulate the photo of crossing the stage and we can use these photos for the virtual graduation ceremony. Of course, the decision to take a photo will be completely up to you, but we have worked out a system that allows us to have this opportunity while still maintaining strict social distancing guidelines. We hope this bring a little bit of personalization to our ceremony and we will also send you a digital copy of your photo at no charge as a keepsake. For specific questions related to cap and gown distribution please reach out to our Senior class advisor, Jennifer Kvalvik at jkvalvik@sandi.net.

Yearbooks:
We have ordered our yearbooks and they are expected to be here the first week of June. The books have been slightly delayed as the companies deal with restrictions due to Covid-19, but rest assured that we will have our books and be able to distribute them to you all. If you have not ordered yours yet, there will be another opportunity for you to purchase books. For any yearbook related questions please reach out to our yearbook advisor Paul Morgan at pmorgan@sandi.net.

We miss you all, but we will be together again soon!
Stay Strong, Marauders!
