Mira Mesa High School History
Located in the northern portion of the San Diego city limits MiraMesa is situated in an area once inhabited by Indian tribes, the relicsand bones of which can still be found in Penasquitos canyon. When theSpaniards came the area became part of a large land grant known asRancho Penasquitos. Because much of the land was considered wasteland,it was not put to much use for years until developers in the early1960's saw its potential to relieve the housing shortage San Diego wassuffering.
It wasn't until 1974 that a school bond issue was passed tohelp build the schools that the now full-fledged town of Mira Mesasorely needed. On September 13, 1976, Mira Mesa Jr./Sr. High Schoolproudly opened its doors.
