Hello! I’m Shannon Kelly and I am so happy to be a part of Marvin Elementary!
I was born in La Mesa and have lived in San Diego my whole life. I earned my bachelor’s degree and teaching credential at SDSU and have been teaching here in San Diego for 25 years now. I began my first 10 years in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District and spent the last 15 years here in San Diego Unified.
I have mainly taught first grade, as well as a few years in Kindergarten and 4th grade. Most recently, I taught 1st grade for 5 years at La Jolla Elementary, followed by 3 years in the International Center at Marshall Elementary teaching students who are brand new to the U.S.A. I’ve also taught at several other schools in our district, including Webster, Normal Heights, Sherman, and Chavez Elementary.
I love spending time with my family and friends, going to the beach, browsing antique stores and flea markets, walking, cooking, creative projects, and home decorating. In summertime, my absolute favorite thing to do is take my vintage camper and my dog up to the mountains and go “glamping”!
I am so excited for this year, because I especially love teaching reading and writing. I can’t wait to explore the world of books together and help the children in my class become readers and authors!
