Vice Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Students, and Community,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  It is an honor to be your vice-principal on this very exciting year.  I have had the privilege to work in San Diego Unified School District from the beginning of my career as a teacher intern at Emerson-Bandini Elementary.  As a classroom teacher, I was blessed to have taught at Balboa Elementary for eleven years.  In 2015, I was given the opportunity to work with the Office of Language Acquisition as an ELST/ELI-RT, allowing me to work and learn here at Horace Mann Middle alongside its awesome staff and wonderful community.

Like many of our students, I am an immigrant, and I am aware of the difficulties that come with learning a new language and culture.  I still experience the occasional clash of ideas between my mother countries (Mexico and El Salvador) and the country that has given me so many opportunities.  The value of education has been present in my family’s expectations.  Because of this I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from UCSD and a Master’s degree from SDSU.

I look forward to meeting you and partnering in supporting your educational journey.  Please do not hesitate to communicate with me via email: eherrera@sandi.net or phone at ‪(619)560-4460 ext. 3003.
