Good evening Mann Middle School Families,

This is Vice-Principal, Erica Herrera, with this week’s announcements.

First of all, a big bravo to Mr. Krylow and our Mann Middle School band, orchestra, and symphony for doing an outstanding job at last Thursday’s Music Concert. If you were not in attendance you missed out.  They were phenomenal!

This week we will be concluding the school year on Tuesday, June 11th.  It is a minimum day, therefore our day ends at 12:40.

Students, if you have not turned in your textbooks, it is important that you turn them in as soon as possible.  Our librarian will be on site on Monday and Tuesday from 7:30-11:30. You do not want to end the year with a debt in books, so bring them in tomorrow.

As we conclude the school year we want to thank you for entrusting us with your children.  It is our commitment to continuously be improving in how we serve our community not only academically but also in the area of safety.  We prepare to receive our students in the best learning environment we can provide.  Nevertheless, we know that you are an important component of guaranteeing a safe learning environment.  Please continue to have conversations at home as to how each student can make a difference in our school towards the better.

With that in mind, Tuesday will be a very busy day at Mann Middle.  We will be celebrating our 8th Graders in their promotion ceremony at 8:00 a.m.  Because of this we will have a very busy morning drop off.  We advise you to not come into the parking lot unless it is absolutely necessary.  We will be opening the 54th Street entrance, the door we used in the fall, to allow for a quicker drop-off and safer walking pathway to our students as we have multiple parents trying to be at the 8th Grade Ceremony.  If you are a 6th or 7th grade parent, we advise you take care of any business you may need assistance on Monday or after 10:00 on Tuesday.

It has been an honor to be your Vice-Principal this year.  We have been able to come together as a stronger community, a community that constantly demonstrates its resiliency in overcoming tragedy and negativity to rise as a community that holds together and takes care of one another.  I thank each and every single one of you for allowing me to lead this year and for all the words of encouragement that you have shared with me.  Closing this school year has brought many memories that allow me to be reflective as to why I continue to choose Mann Middle as my home.  (#ChooseMann)

Let’s have a wonderful last week, cougars!  This is your Vice-Principal, Erica Herrera, Mann Middle School.

This Thursday, our Band and Orchestra students will be having their Spring Concert at 6:00 in our school’s auditorium.  They have done an outstanding job this year representing our school and we are proud to showcase their musical abilities.  The concert is free so come enjoy a musical evening with us.

April 1-5, 2019

Good Evening Mann Middle School Families,

This is Vice-Principal, Erica Herrera, with this week’s announcements.  I do hope that you had a restful one week Spring Break.  Tomorrow, April 1st we start the last ten weeks of school- which will go extremely fast.

This week we have Picture Day on Thursday, April 4th.   For our Eighth Graders, this is an important photo since it will be the one that will be used in our promotion certificate.  Eighth graders will be taking their picture in their cap and gowns.  For sixth and seventh graders, the pictures are optional.

Parents, if you haven’t already, please make sure that you turn in your “California Parent Survey.”  It was sent home with your seventh graders. It is also available on-line via our school’s website and additional copies can be found in our main office.

Over Spring Break we had our construction crew busy at trying to bring down Building 600.  They are almost complete, what is left is the debris pickup.  Students need to be careful when walking behind Building 200.  Our student drop-off area will continue to be in front of our school, and the entrance on Trojan Street will continue to be closed.  Parents, we ask you to be careful as you drive into our parking lot since the majority of our students are walking to/away from school.

We are looking for parent volunteers!  We have two big events this month that require your help.  This month we have Field Day at Crawford High and our Western BBQ Lunch.  In addition, next month we have our Teacher Appreciation Week.  If you are interested in volunteering your time, please speak to our front office staff.

Eighth grade parents and students, we will be adding a new section to our website just for you!  In this section, we will be adding our promotion requirements and any announcements that you may need to be aware of.  Please make sure that you visit this section of our website often.

Let’s have a wonderful week, cougars!  This is Erica Herrera, Vice-Principal, Mann Middle School.

February 4-8, 2019

Good Evening Mann Middle School Families,

This is Vice-Principal, Erica Herrera, sharing with you information about the upcoming week.  First, thank you parents for helping us with attendance.  Please continue to motivate your students to be at school every day, even when it rains.  As you are aware, we will have many rainy days this week, therefore, we ask that your students come ready to stay dry by having an umbrella.  Parents, if you are picking up your student after school, the Trojan Avenue opening to our parking lot is not an entrance.  On Friday, we tried our best to redirect you to take 54th Street.   Using the opening on Trojan Avenue causes additional traffic and it is in the pathway for our walking students, furthermore a left turn into our parking lot using Trojan Avenue is illegal.  Please, do not use that opening to our parking lot.

This Tuesday we will have a School Site Council meeting in which we will be voting to finalize our 2019-2020 School Budget.  It is an open meeting, but only members are allowed to vote.

Thursday is our Talent Show.  The first show is at 2:30 and the second at 6:00 in the evening.  Please support our students by coming- it is going to be a great show!  Tickets are $3.00, and the show is in our auditorium.

Let’s have a great week Cougars!  This is Vice-Principal, Erica Herrera, Mann Middle School.

January 21-25, 2019

Good Evening Mann Middle School Families,

This is Vice-Principal Erica Herrera, with a look at the week ahead.  Thank you parents for your support- we had over 70 students at Saturday School on January 19.  This is an example of how responsible our students are at clearing their unexcused absences or coming to catch up with their pending classwork.  Our next Saturday School will be on February 9th.

Tomorrow, Monday January 21st is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day, therefore our campus will be closed.  Classes resume on Tuesday.  This week also marks the last week of the semester.  Parents encourage your students to take advantage of this week to catch up on all their work since Friday will be the last day of Semester 1.  Students, this is the grade that will stay on your transcript, so be resilient and do the work to earn a higher GPA.

Thank you to all the students who auditioned for our Talent Show.  Rehearsals will be this Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Save the Date, the show will be on Thursday February 7th.  This Wednesday will be our last parent computer class.  You are still welcome to come- they are at 5:30 in Room A1.  Next week, we will have a Parent Workshop on Social Media on Tuesday January 29th.  Parents will learn about the risks of social media and how to keep our students safe.  I encourage you to attend.

Finally, parents, if you were not able to attend our SSC meeting on Thursday we will have our next meeting on Thursday January 31st.  Please try to attend since we will be discussing important items related to next school year’s budget.

January 14-18, 2019

Good evening Mann Middle School families,

This is Vice-Principal Erica Herrera with a look at the week ahead.  Thank you parents for supporting us this week as we practice new procedures for entering and exiting our campus.  We will continue to have car drop-off/pick up be on the side parking lot.  Also, let’s continue to encourage our students to use the sidewalks and walking paths to enter and exit our campus, and to cross at the stop light on Trojan Ave and 54th Street.

I would like to introduce and welcome Bob Morgenstein to Mann Middle School.  Mr. Morgenstein will serve as Interim Principal for the remainder of the school year. He brings over 30 years of educational experience as teacher, principal and mentor principal.  We are ever appreciative to Mr.  Morgenstein for supporting Mann Middle during this time.  He will be with us starting tomorrow, Monday January 14th.

Auditions for our talent show will be after school on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with our show being on Thursday February 7th.  On Wednesday, we will continue to have our Computer Classes for our parents.  These classes will be in Spanish and teach you about how to use common computer applications such as PowerPoint and Word.  On Thursday, we will have our School Site Council meeting at 2:30 in our new Professional Development room.

Have an awesome week, Cougars.  This is Vice-Principal Erica Herrera, Mann Middle School.

January 7-11, 2019

Good evening Mann Middle School families,

This is Vice-Principal Erica Herrera with a look at the week ahead.  Tomorrow we will be opening our new building which will house our administrative offices in the first floor, English Department in the second, and Math in the third floor.

In preparation for the opening of Lower Campus, we will have some changes to how we access our school.  First, walking students will enter school using our Trojan Avenue entrances and walking towards the main entrance under the word MANN.  Second, if you drive your students to school- we have a new drop-off procedure.  Cars must enter the parking lot using the 54th Street entrance and following the loop to exit.  We will have the same procedure at the end of the day.

This week we will have our District’s Crisis and Counseling team supporting our students and staff as we remember Principal Allen Teng.  He was a great educator who cared deeply about our students, who believed that education was the key for a better tomorrow, and believed that teachers make an impact in students.  Our new building was completed under the guidance of his love and attention to detail- it is a building filled with love and hope for our staff and students.

On Wednesday, we will continue to have our Computer Classes for our parents.  These classes will be in Spanish and teach you about how to use common computer applications such as PowerPoint and Word.

Let’s help each other this week Cougars.  This is Vice-Principal Erica Herrera, Mann Middle School.
