Hello Warhawk Families,
I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well during this difficult time.
San Diego Unified School District announced yesterday, March 24 plans to begin transitioning to distance learning on April 6th with full implementation by April 27th. Here is a link to their press release.
I am sure you have many questions for what this means for our Madison Warhawks. I’ll start with instruction and student learning.
During this time, students are still being provided online enrichment opportunities through our district’s Instructional Continuity web page and also through the newly shared Winward Academy platform. Our students enrolled in Mesa College Classes should be accessing their online college classes as of Monday, March 23rd. Mesa students should reach out to Ms. Balzer if you are having trouble connecting with your online class or in need of your materials. AP students, you should be in contact with your AP teachers and should receive an update soon regarding AP testing. Many of our teachers also continue to update their Google Classrooms, Canvas or Schoology platforms. I encourage all students to spend time each day exercising their minds.
We also encourage students to continue to connect with their teachers via email or through the teacher’s online platform if you have questions at this time. Our school counselors are also still responding to emails and we encourage our students with counseling questions to continue to reach out to them.
Our district is now providing professional development for our teaching staff to prepare for online learning. The plan is to have all of our teachers trained and ready to begin launching their online classes on April 6th. From April 6th until April 27th, our teachers will be providing instruction online and monitoring to identify students who may not yet be accessing the online platform. By April 27th, all students should be participating fully in the online classes – this is when all students will be expected to access their online learning for credit (Note: any enrichment assignments completed through our district resources or Winward Academy is to continue enriching student’s academically and not for a grade/credit). Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we thoughtfully prepare to launch.
In order to provide online learning access for all students, San Diego Unified School District is also developing a plan to ensure all students have the technology they need.
Many of our students, especially our seniors, also want to know what this means in terms of athletics, clubs, student activities such as prom, award ceremonies and graduation. I remain optimistic and hopeful. While activities and events during school closure are canceled, I am hopeful we will be able to resume classes at the Nest before the end of the school year.
Our entire Madison Warhawk Team is dedicated to providing our students and families a positive school experience. Know that our staff will continue to come together through virtual meetings to find creative solutions to support our students.
Families and students, please continue to monitor our webpage, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for updates.
Lastly, any student who has not yet completed the Warhawk-Check In please take a moment today to complete it. It is linked here and is on our home page.
