Letter To Madison High School Families Regarding Student Activities

Dear Students of Madison High School,

On behalf of the San Diego Unified School District team, we are so sorry that this global pandemic has impacted your experience as a student in our district.  We were excited to chaperone your proms, senior activities and field trips, coach you and cheer you on at your games, competitions and intramural events, and serve as advisors to your clubs.  We wanted all of these things to happen for you and we share in your disappointment that these things aren’t going to happen as originally planned. We want you to know that we are going to do everything in our power to help you find other solutions that are best for everyone.

SDUSD Seniors, we want you to know that all of the already scheduled proms and senior activities have been cancelled.  This decision was made with a heavy heart to allow for you and your Senior Class to work in partnership with site administration and Senior Class Advisor to recuperate your funds and then go back to the drawing board.  Students have already begun sharing some initial thoughts and ideas about alternatives and so we encourage you to turn to your elected Senior Class Officers in this time to listen to your ideas and to represent you. Please be sure to complete the Prom survey in the Class of 2020 Google Classroom. Please keep the lines of communication open with ASB so that they can share your ideas to see if we can all come together to support you.

In regards to the graduation ceremony, a determination has not been made at this time with regards to graduation ceremonies and possible other options to celebrate student success. The district will provide more information and options once a final decision has been made.

We recently received this communication from the CIF San Diego Section Commissioner regarding the spring athletic season and we wanted to share it with you: An Open Letter to Student-Athletes in San Diego. SDUSD Athletes, we encourage you to keep in touch with your teammates and your coaches to ensure you are prepared for the next step whenever that time comes.  We also encourage you to continue to train and participate in the #sdusdathlete challenge: http://sdusdathletics.com/workouts/.

Club Officers & Members, we encourage you to connect with your Club Advisors to continue the excellent work you have done so far this year.  Please continue meeting virtually with your certificated advisor and document your meeting minutes.

As your advisors, coaches and chaperones, we are still here for you.  We are so proud to hear that during this time you are turning to one another, offering your help and support.  We hope, just like you, that you will still get an opportunity to have some of those memorable experiences we all looked forward to.  We challenge you to make the most out of this unfortunate situation and we want you to know we are here to support you.
