The James Madison HS AJROTC program is doing its spring service learning project to support children with leukemia in Peru. Many of the children are abandoned once families find out the children have been diagnosed with Leukemia since they family cannot afford treatment. Doctor Lane Rolling and his wife Dr. Sany Benites run cancer clinics where children get treatment or are awaiting funding for treatment. The mortality rate is high. Since the families don’t visit the children have very little to do but wait and possibly die. The comics and coloring books are a means of providing some leisure and comfort to these children. The comics can be anything from Archie to Disney to Marvel. The coloring books or sticker books can be age appropriate for 5-13 years old. The cadets have set a goal of 1,000 comics/color books for these children. English or Spanish it doesn’t matter. No money just comic/coloring books. We are doing this through May 11th. Dr. Rolling is the director of TPAIDA, Tropical Pathology and Infectious Diseases Association. Anything you can provide will surely lesson the emotional and physical aspects of this disease.
Thank you all
