Overview

Arrival Staffsupervision of students begins at 8:40 a.m.For safety reasons, students are not to arrive at school before 8:40a.m.Uponentering campus, students must remain on the lower playground in their line orin the Breakfast Court.Elementarystudents may participate in the Running Club.Students are not to go to their classrooms unless accompanied by ateacher or staff member.There isabsolutely no playing on the school play structures before the start ofschool.BreakfastThe cafeteria serves breakfast from 8:40 am until 8:50 am and elementarystudents may eat their breakfast until 9:00 am.Middle school students are given priority in getting breakfast due totheir earlier start time of 8:50 am.Middleschool students are strongly encouraged to eat breakfast at home.Bus riders whose bus arrives at or after 8:50am will be allowed to eat breakfast and will have their “tardy” excused.Staff supervision is present in thecafeteria and in the Breakfast Court. Please note that teachers will begin instruction on time eachday.It is the responsibility ofstudents to find out what they have missed if they arrive late to school. Bus RidersBuses arrive in our loading zone on Burgener Boulevard at 8:40am.A staff member supervises students asthey are unloaded from buses.Bus ridersenter campus through the gate between room B1 and room 4.Pleaseensure the safety of all students by not parking in the bus loading zone and bynot crossing the street in between school buses.Student Drop OffStudentswho are dropped off will enter campus through the July Street gate.A staff member will supervise students asthey enter through this gate.Pleasenote that parents who accompany their child/ren onto campus should use the JulyStreet gate entrance, too.Parentswho drop-off their children can helpensure student and traffic safety by not blocking intersections or crosswalks,not double parking, and never allowing your children to exit your vehicle onthe driver’s side of your car.Parking and WalkingLongfellowdoes not have a parking lot.Parents andguardians are strongly encouraged to arrive at our school with plenty of timeto find a safe and lawful place to park their vehicle and walk their child tothe July Street entrance.Pleasenote the various street signs posted around the perimeter of our campus.Parentsmust always model, for children, safe and lawful pedestrian behaviors such as:·Alwaysusing cross walks when crossing July Street, Burgener Boulevard, and AugustStreet·Alwayswalking on the sidewalkDismissalElementarystudents are dismissed promptly at 3:45 pm on regular days (12:50 pm on minimumdays) and should leave campus immediately upon dismissal. Students who ride the bus will line up on thelower playground and leave shortly after dismissal. Middleschool students are dismissed promptly at 3:55 pm on regular days (1:04 pm onminimum days) and should leave campus immediately upon dismissal.Students who ride the bus will walk directlyto their bus.If their bus is late,students are to remain on campus until their bus has arrived.Studentsenrolled in the YMCA Character Builders program and after school programs willmeet supervisory staff in the lunch court.There is absolutely no playing on the school structures after school. Specific dismissal procedures areindicated below:Kindergarteners:Kindergarten Students Who Are Picked-Up:Students sit in lines on the playground in the Kindergarten Yard.Students from rooms K1, K2, and K3 are dismissed from the west gate.Students from rooms 9, 10, and B8 are dismissed from the east gate.Teachers will release students to a parent or guardian.Please note that teachers are present for 10 minutes of student supervision.Reminder…Parents/guardians who are more than 10 minutes late (arriving after 3:55 pm on regular days or 1:00 pm on minimum days), will need to go to the front office to pick up their child.Please be advised that you may be asked to provide identification by the front office staff.Bus Riders:Students are walked to the lower playground by a kindergarten teacher and placed in assigned their bus line.YMCA Character Builders Program Program:Students are grouped in the Kindergarten Yard between rooms K2 and K3 and are picked up by YMCA staff.After-School Programs:Students meet After School Program supervisory staff in the lunch court.Grades 1-5:Grades 1 and 2 Students Who Are Picked-Up:Teachers will walk students to the grassy area just outside of the July Street gate.Students will sit or stand as they wait to be picked by a parent/guardian.Please note that teachers are present for 10 minutes of student supervision.Reminder… Parents/guardians who are more than 10 minutes late (arriving after 3:55 pm on regular days or 1:00 pm on minimum days), will need to go to the front office to pick up their child.Please be advised that you may be asked to provide identification by the front office staff.Grades 3-5 Students Who Are Picked-Up:Teachers will walk students to the August Street back gate.Students will wait there to be picked up by a parent/guardian.Please note that teachers are present for 10 minutes of student supervision.Reminder…Parents/guardians who are more than 10 minutes late (arriving after 3:55 pm on regular days or 1:00 pm on minimum days), will need to go to the front office to pick up their child.Please be advised that you may be asked to provide identification by the front office staff.Bus Riders:Teachers will walk students to the bus line up area on the lower playground.Students will wait to be walked to their assigned bus.YMCA Character Builders Program:Teachers will walk all students enrolled in the YMCA Character Builders Program to the tables on the southernmost end of the Lunch Court.YMCA staff will meet students in the lunch court.After School Programs:Teachers will walk all students enrolled in After School Programs to the tables behind the first graders in the Lunch Court.After School Program staff will meet students at these tables.
