Spotlight: Andrew Lincoln

This week we are highlighting our awesome Education Specialist, Mr. Andrew Lincoln!

1. How long have you been on staff at Loma Portal?
This is my second year as an Ed Spec at Loma Portal.

2. How long have you been an Education Specialist?
This is my 3rd year as an employee of the San Diego Unified School District.

3. What is your favorite thing about our school?
I love so many components of Loma Portal! If I had to choose one, I would say that Loma Portal feels like a team. The staff and families work together in order to provide the most effective and fun learning environment for our students. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a great team.

4. What is something funny a student has said to you?
One of my students once asked me, "What do you do for work, what is your real job?" I laughed and said "This IS my job! I am a teacher!"

5. Where were you born and raised?
I was born in San Diego CA, more specifically San Carlos. After high school, I attended college in the bay area, and graduated from USF, University of San Francisco. Then I moved to Portland OR for 3 years, and ended up back in San Diego, when I finished my M. Ed.

6. What are your hobbies?
I have too many hobbies! One of my favorites is surfing. I have traveled all over the country and the world to pursue this passion. I also picked up rock climbing about 6 years ago, and like to camp as often as possible in the state and national parks around the country. My favorite place to climb is Joshua Tree National Park. I love soccer, and have played since I was 5 years old. I still get out and play indoor soccer on Sundays. Lastly, I really enjoy playing and listening to music. I have played a few different instruments, however I have always been drawn to the bass guitar. I have played the bass in many bands.

7. What are some items on your 'bucket list?'
  • Travel to Alaska, New Zealand, Asia (specifically China and Japan) and Chile (to name a few, I love to travel!)
  • Shape a surfboard
  • Build an acoustic guitar (this one will never happen since I don't have the time, skills or patience, but I can still dream)
