Welcome to Ceramics!
We have two Ceramics courses: Ceramics 1-2 and Ceramics 3-4.
Ceramics 1-2 students explore a variety of hand-building techniques through project based learning. The process of clay is explained with every student having access to tools, equipment, glazes, and the firing process in ceramics. Ceramics 2 focuses on using the hand-building techniques learned in Ceramics 1 to build more complex forms and projects. The pottery wheel is also introduced and taught in Ceramics 2. All projects adhere to the Visual Arts California State Standards.
Ceramics 3-4 is a continuation to more in depth development of skills and exploration in ceramics. Starting with the wheel and then incorporating the wheel and hand-building projects.
To achieve content area mastery, students will be exposed to a variety of ceramic hand-building and pottery wheel from a variety of examples found in books, Ceramic Monthly Magazines, videos and cultures. Students will also be expected to think critically about material, use the creative process, and aesthetic valuing to create projects from clay. They are also expected to be able to analyze and critique their work in a written format, class discussion, and as part of ongoing assessments connected to state standards.
