The La Jolla Elementary community is excited to embark upon our Whole Site Modernization project, which is funded by Prop S, Z and YY bonds. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in Summer 2020, and the anticipated completion date is November 2022.
We have had three Design Task Force meetings with the project manager, District personnel, and the Domusstudio firm to discuss the project and receive input from school staff, parents, and community members. A variety of stakeholders, including the principal, general and special education staff, non-classroom teachers, the BSS, office staff, and parents have participated in programming meetings with the project manager and Domusstudio firm to provide input into the project's scope and details.
The project includes modernization of existing facilities and new construction to replace bungalows and older permanent buildings, including the "Alamo" and classroom building next to the auditorium. The modernization includes renovation of existing classrooms, food services facilities, site accessibility upgrades, technology and communication infrastructure upgrades, and site improvements including a new lunch court, outdoor learning spaces, larger parking lot, drop off/pick up zone. The new two-story building will house the front office, nurse, 4th and 5th grade classrooms, a maker space, and more. It will create a single point of entry for the campus on Girard Avenue. The new building next to the auditorium will house food services, art, music, and two classrooms. The kinder bungalows will also be demolished and replaced with a new permanent classroom building.
