Overview - About John Muir

John Muir Language Academy (formerly known as John Muir School) is a dedicated district magnet school focused on French and Spanish language immersion, global citizenship and Paideia ideology. The school serves elementary (K-5) and middle school (6-8) students from the city of San Diego and has a maximum enrollment of 440. Each grade at Muir is comprised of one cohort of students creating a personalized and safe environment in and out of the classroom. Muir is located at 4431 Mt. Herbert Avenue in the Clairemont area.Transportation is provided for students who live more than 5 miles from the school.
 
All of our students engage in monthly school-wide Paideia seminars. During these seminars, students read and discuss complex, rigorous text dealing with global, environmental, and ethical issues that affect them as global citizens. Our  seminars and our K-8 grade configuration promote a family atmosphere in which students have many opportunities to be teachers and learners in multiple-grade groupings.
 
John Muir School is a SDUSD integration program. To apply to John Muir School. all students must complete an Enrollment Options application. Call the school for further information at (858) 268-1954.
