Community Report — January 2016

From Our Principal

This month students are working hard in all areas of the curriculum. Fourth and 5th graders are enjoying their instrumental music program. Students had a choice of band, orchestra, or ukulele. Our instructional music program is led by Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Orem.

In the classroom our students are working on developing their critical thinking through the Just Think Literacy Program. Teachers also are working hard in all other areas of a very comprehensive academic curriculum. The 5th grade enjoyed a very educational field trip to the U.S.S. Nimitz.

Our school Safety Patrol is running strong and led by a very hard working-parent, Mary Ringenbach. Students work one day a week, before and after school. The students are trained and supported by the San Diego Police Department.

We would like to recognize all the wonderful parent volunteers who make our Art Corps program possible. These hard-working parents prepare and facilitate art lessons for all students in their classes.

Our Family Faculty Organization (FFO) has ensured we have plenty of PE equipment. Teachers and students are so thankful for the replenishing done this year.

Finally, we would like to thank a special group of families who have gone above and beyond in giving and volunteerism: Anderson; Caffrey; Chiu; Colletto; Gonzalez; Grover; Leloup-Tardiveau; Lewis; Melancon; Podmenik; Rosik; Jackson-Schumann; and Wood. We truly appreciate your unending support.

Congratulations Nyiah Bollinger

Confidence, communication skills, kindness, and tenacity are not just desired traits of Jerabek students, they are the traits that helped newly crowned 3rd grader Nyiah Bollinger receive her title as a 2015–2016 Junior Pre-Teen National Cover Model in the National American Miss (NAM) pageant. NAM is touted as the number one program in America for “growing confidence” in girls ages 4–18.

Nyiah Bollinger

Nyiah (above) began competing in NAM in 2014 as a way to build her self-esteem, as she had a rare condition called non-verbal learning disorder (NLD). Since NAM focuses on poise, communication skills, and confidence—for example, makeup is not allowed—Nyiah had the opportunity to hone her skills by competing for titles judged solely by her ability to do public speaking and interviews, write a resume, and serve her community.

We are proud of our 2015 Miss San Diego Junior Pre-Teen, Miss 2015 California Junior Pre-Teen Cover Girl, and the new 2015–2016 Junior Pre-Teen National Cover Model, Nyiah Bollinger!

Volunteer Spotlight

The spotlight this month shines on our amazing Jerabek volunteer Rebecca Stewart (above). She is mom to two beautiful girls, Scarlett and Ainsley. Rebecca is also a vice president on the Family Faculty Organization (FFO) Board and co-chaired the Spring Fling for the last two years.

In addition to her active participation on the FFO, she finds time to volunteer in her daughters’ classrooms. Rebecca goes out of her way to welcome families to Jerabek. She exudes the spirit of our school, and we are fortunate to have her as one of our amazing volunteers. Thank you, Rebecca, for all you do for Jerabek!

Corporate Sponsor

Jerabek is so fortunate to have corporate sponsors who provide support. We would like to thank Emma Lefkowitz as one of our amazing corporate sponsors from Barron Real Estate. Emma is a huge part of the Jerabek community and a dedicated Realtor serving all of San Diego County and specializing in Scripps Ranch.

Wishing everyone a fantastic 2016!
