Biography:

I am excited to be introducing myself to you as the iHigh Virtual Academy English/Art Teacher.  I have been working in education for the past 19 years in many different arenas.  As a classroom teacher I have spent the last 15 years working for the San Diego Unified School District. I have a wide array of experiences, ranging from Alternative school sites to Traditional classroom settings.

I feel my strength in working with students, is my ability to build rapport in a genuine and caring manner. I treat each student as an individual, unique person who has his/her own way of learning. I do not believe in the "one size fits all" approach to education.  I see my classes as being innovative and engaging. I try to find activities and lessons that will spark student interest and make school a place that feels safe and supportive.  This is why I am so excited about being a part of iHigh Virtual Academy.

In 2007, I was voted Teacher of the Year at ALBA Middle School.  This was voted on by fellow teachers and staff at the school site.  I believe my ability to build relationships with teachers, staff, parents and community agencies has allowed me to be successful and thrive as a teacher.  I find it very rewarding for students to become involved in their community and feel they are a part of something bigger.  A goal I have is to bridge our school with some of the wonderful community programs that are offered throughout San Diego County.

Some of my personal interests include staying healthy by exercising and being outdoors as much as possible.  I enjoy cooking, writing poetry, and all sports.  The majority of my free time is spent with my family. I am married with 2 young daughters, ages 12 and 15.  My wife works with foster youth at the San Diego County Office of Education.
