Here are some ways you can stay up-to-date about what’s going on around campus:
School Web Site
Be sure to check out the School News Headlines and Upcoming Events on the Holmes Elementary Web site regularly. Also visit the online calendar to get up to date on important holidays and school closures, school events, before/after school activities, fundraisers and meetings. You can find the calendar on the Holmes Elementary web site. Hard copies are also posted on the two campus bulletin boards.
The PTA uses Konstella for school, classroom and PTA communications. Konstella combines the features of Shutterfly, Constant Contact, Google Drive, Survey Monkey, Yahoo Groups, Meetup and more all into a single, easy to use interface. Holmes parents must sign up for Konstella to stay up-to-date with classroom, school and PTA activities. Be sure to sign up if you haven't already! Once you do, you will receive weekly "Hawk News" email newsletters. For more information, visit the Konstella News page.
Monday Morning Announcements
Monday morning drop-off for grades 1-5 is a good time to hear weekly announcements and news from Principal Saipe. Parents/guardians are welcome to line up on the blacktop next to the blue playground.
Parents are invited to meet with Principal, Jonathan Saipe, in the auditorium on the first Friday of every month from 8:30-9:00am. Come get updates about district and school news, learn a simple yet effective reading strategy, and have an opportunity to share ideas on how to make Holmes an even better school. From approximately 9:00-9:30am parents will go to their child's classroom to read or participate in a learning activity. Refreshments will be provided by the Holmes PTA. Visit the Family Friday web page for more information and the Family Friday schedule.
Student Hawkeye Folders
Every day students bringome a “Hawkeye” folder that contains school announcements and classroom assignments. The majority of the school announcement flyers are sent home on Thursdays. While the folders have important information, to stay informed in a more timely way, you should use the other methods of keeping informed as listed above.
The “Hawkeye” is a bi-monthly newsletter written and printed by the PTA. This wonderful publication keeps families informed about what is going on in our community and at Holmes. A hard copy of the Hawkeye is distributed to all students. It is also posted on the web site and distributed through Konstella. For those who do not have internet access, a hard copy is available in the front office. Visit the Hawkeye Web page to download the most recent issue or an archived one. If you would like to submit an article for a future issue, please email our Hawkeye Newsletter Editor, information located on the Hawkeye Web page.
When on campus, you can get information on the Holmes Elementary bulletin boards. The main one is located by the adult restrooms. A smaller one is located in the kindergarten area by room K3. The bulletin boards include a monthly calendar, important announcements and a list of current activities at Holmes.
PTA Association Meetings
Parents are encouraged to attend Association Meetings, which are held the third Thursday of September, January, March and May. During these meetings, PTA members make many important decisions, including:
· electing the nominating committee and PTA officers
· approving and ratify all expenditures
· approving all programs, events and projects
· adopting the budget and audit report
Visit the Holmes PTA Web site (www.holmespta.org) for more information on PTA activites. Visit the PTA Membership web page (http://www.holmespta.org/p/membership.html) for more information on joining PTA.
The Holmes Elementary School Site Council (SSC) and the Holmes Elementary Site Governance Team (SGT) are an elected, decision-making group comprised of parents, teachers, the principal, school staff, and community members. Together, they do many great things for the students of Holmes Elementary. Meetings are open to the public and parents are encouraged to attend.
Back to School Night & Open House
Back to School Night takes place in September and our Open House is in May. They are scheduled in conjunction with our PTA Association Meetings and our Scholastic Book Fairs. Back to School Night is an adult only event, giving parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and hear what they have planned for the year. The Spring Open House is for students and their parents/guardians to celebrate the students’ work and accomplishments.
On parent conference days, school will be dismissed early. This is the ideal opportunity for you to review your child’s progress with their teacher. Parent conference days are scheduled in November and in March. Please schedule additional conferences with your child’s teacher any time you feel they are needed.
The best way to know what is going on at Holmes Elementary is to be a part of the action! There are many ways you can help, including classroom support, school events, and fundraisers to name a few. If you’d like to find out how you can volunteer send an email to our PTA VP of Communications, Heather Matheny at firstname.lastname@example.org.
