Welcome to Patrick Henry

A strong tradition of academics, athletics, innovation, and the arts: Patrick Henry High offers it all to its 2,500 students.  Our diverse student body provides a rich and engaging experience for all our students, and our beautiful campus on fifty-seven acres in Del Cerro, San Diego supports our students’ academic and athletic success.

We launched one of the first academy programs in the district, the Teaching Academy, creating a school within a school to prepare students for specific career and college programs.  Patrick Henry High also has an Engineering Academy to support our students’ science, engineering, and design interests.

Henry offers many avenues for academic challenges. We offer a wide range of Advanced Placement programs, twenty-two in total. Our highly regarded arts program, with drama, band, and choral music, offers students a chance to round out their education. Our special education program supports students on all academic tracks, and our English Learner Program helps students new to the United States an accelerated language acquisition program and support classes.

Our students and staff have earned a legacy of achievement. Some recent accolades include three students qualifying for the prestigious academic honor in 2010 of being named National Merit Scholarship Finalists. In athletics, our Boys' Cross Country Team won the County CIF title and placed second at the state level and seventh at the national level. One runner in 2010 received a full scholarship to Harvard University. Three students serve as La Jolla Playhouse student board members, many students participate in paid internships, and many of our accomplished musicians were selected for the All-State Honor Band.

We are proud of our innovative technical classes in engineering, architecture, digital electronics and so much more. Students who participate in ACE Mentoring learn from working professionals and learn highly relevant skills -- so relevant in fact that our prospective theater was designed in part by our Ace Mentoring students! The program offers students unparalleled career exploration and academic challenge.

Other innovations are our psychology and child development classes, which offer students practical experience at schools in the area with training that prepares them to become teachers and nursery school teachers. They get college credit, and the option to become certified nursery school teachers, gaining a career path.

We also offer medical science classes (medical biology, medical chemistry, and physiology) in partnership with nearby Grossmont Medical Center and Grossmont College. Students learn about medical careers during science classes, and they get the opportunity for career exploration as well as summer jobs and internships.

Our faculty is experienced, and many in special programs have specialized training. We are lucky to have an active parent community that provides its time and talent to supporting students in academics, athletics, music and more.

Above all, Henry is a learning community that prides itself in nurturing every student’s academic, social, and personal development.
