The California Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 changed the kindergarten entry date from December 2 to September 2. To enter kindergarten, students must now turn 5 by the first day of school. This Legislation created a transitional kindergarten program. While this change of a few months may seem small, it can mean a big difference during the early learning years of our children.
Transitional kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. It provides an opportunity for our younger five-year-olds to develop the academic and social skills that will help them succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
Students who turn 5 between September 2 and December 2, 2014 may choose to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten.
Students who turn 5 on or before September 1, 2014 may choose to enroll in Kindergarten.
