Meet Mrs. Ashton, the Principal
Mrs. Ashton grew up in San Diego and attended San Diego Unified School District as a student from K-12th Grade. She attended Fremont, Grant, Gompers and Point Loma High School. Graduating from SDSU, she became an elemntary school teacher and has taught most elementary grade levels. She has been working for SDUSD for approximately 17 years. One of her favorite positions was working central office as a resource teacher and rolling out the i21 technology classrooms. Her passion for technology in the classroom lead her to develop the district-wide program of creating a Digital Teacher Leader at all school sites. For four years she served in the community as the Vice Principal of Wangenheim Middle School. While at Wangenheim, Mrs. Ashton supported staff in professional development while also paying close attention to the safety of all students. She works closely with the needs of Special Education students with a coninuted mindset of inclusivity for all. The 2019-2020 school year will be her 3rd year as principal at Ericson and her 7th year as an administrator within the Mira Mesa community.
Mrs. Ashton is married with two elementary-aged children. The family enjoys camping, surfing, and traveling. Mrs. Ashton comes from a family of educators. Her mother is recently retired from Sweetwater School District. Her sister is currently part of the Instructional Technology coaching team for SDUSD.
Mrs. Ashton is excited to serve as principal for the Ericson Elementary familes. Working in Mira Mesa, she has built many strong relationships with families and is looking forwad to building many more. As a mother, she personally understands the importance of the school-family relationship. Her commitment and passion for academic achievement will support a positive learning environment for all staff and students at Ericson Elementary School.
