Bruce R. Bivins has nearly 20 years of experience as an educator, first as a Special Education teacher and an English Language Learner Teacher, then as an assistant principal and high school principal. Since 2010, he has served as the principal of Roosevelt High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where graduation rates doubled over five years.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Western Washington University and is working on his Doctorate of Education from the University of Washington. He has Bachelor’s degrees in Special Education, History, and Business Economics, and a minor in Bilingual Education.
His leadership objectives include:
- Equipping all young people with the powerful intellectual skills, social acumen and work ethics necessary for college success, career readiness, and active civic engagement.
- Building a strong collaborative culture among staff and stakeholders to pursue innovative ideas, challenge the status quo, question our assumptions, implement agreed-upon strategies, provide critical feedback, and be willing to step up for one another and step out of our comfort zones.
