On behalf of the Edison staff, welcome to the 2017-18 school year! I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to serve as Principal of Edison Elementary. The staff and I are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure that our students will achieve at their highest potential. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success. On our part, we are committed to providing a high-quality instructional program in a safe and caring environment. And because our society changes so rapidly, we also pledge to continue our own professional learning so that we are able to provide our students with an education that is current and relevant.
In order to help students along this year’s journey we ask that you partner with us by making sure that your child comes to school on time every day, reads at home on a daily basis, and shares their school experiences with you. We also encourage you to be active participants by regularly staying in contact with your child’s teacher, coming to special events, and volunteering at school. If you would like to volunteer, please be advised that district procedures require an application, a valid form of ID, and proof of a tuberculosis test. Field trip chaperones also require the application process. You may request an application from our office. For the safety of our students, there are no exceptions to this process.
This year we will offer many opportunities to support the home/school partnership including our monthly Family Fridays where you are able to spend 30 minutes in your child’s classroom and be informed about school events, we have already scheduled several parent classes throughout the year to help you assist your child at home, we will have another Family Science Night in the Fall and we are still working on more opportunities so keep an eye out for fliers and the automated phone calls that inform you about school events. Please consider serving on one of our school committees such as the School Site Council which helps to oversee the school’s academic and budget progress or the English Learner Advisory Committee which advises the school on programs and services for English Learners. In addition, every month, representatives from all of the schools in the Hoover cluster meet to learn about and to discuss issues that affect our local schools. We strongly encourage you to attend these meetings as well. Flyers with the dates for the cluster meetings will be sent home throughout the year. If you have any questions about any of these committees, please contact me directly.
As a school within the San Diego Unified School District, we are committed to supporting the district mission which reads:
All San Diego students will graduate with the skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience to succeed in their choice of college and career in order to lead and participate in the society of tomorrow.
At Edison we consider ourselves so fortunate to work in this community and with your children. We invite you once again to join us on this complex yet exciting and rewarding educational journey toward making your child’s dreams come true!
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education,
