elcome to Second Grade, I hope everyone had a fun summer! As your second grade teacher this year, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you as part of the second grade family. My name is Michelle Gil. I have an exciting year planned, and I look forward to making this a successful year at EB Scripps Elementary! During this year we will learn from each other, share, and grow as a community.
I have prepared this letter to acquaint you and your child with the process of ensuring a pleasant learning environment for every student. Please take a few minutes to review and to familiarize yourself with our homework policy and classroom expectations.
Our goal for homework is to help students develop the responsibility of completing and returning homework to school. Homework is to be completed on time to the best of your child’s ability. Please remember that the process, not the product, is the most important aspect of the homework. The discussion, activity and the involvement of a caring family member is most helpful. In addition, to homework, students are assigned 20 minutes of Home Reading. This will allow your child to critically respond to his or her reading. Please encourage reading in your home every day and make it a pleasurable time.
Grade level projects will also be assigned at various times throughout the year. In order for your child to experience success in his/her studies, daily attendance is very important. If your child is absent for more than two days, please arrange to pick up work for him/her to complete at home.
Our first week of school will be establishing our “Classroom Code of Agreements” or a set of expectations to follow. The agreed upon “agreements” will provide every student with the opportunity to manage his or her behavior. We will be focusing on a positive classroom climate that fosters respect, risk taking, critical thinking and shared success. Please be on the lookout for the agreed upon Agreements.
Here are a few important details to help with the first week of school:
Each Wednesday I will send home a "Parent Envelope" with important class or school flyers, and/or graded work. Please do not seal or discard the envelope since it will be used as a communication tool this year.
Please complete and return student information forms to me in "Parent Envelope".
If bringing a snack or lunch to school, please make sure to label snack & lunch bags with child's name and classroom number. I highly recommend separating snack and lunch bags/ containers.
After the first day of school, students will line up each morning on the playground by 8:40am.
Dismissal is at 3:15 pm (12:30 pm Thursdays). I will dismiss students in front of the cafeteria.
Information regarding parent volunteers will be shared at Back to School Night. I look forward to working closely with you and invite you to visit and help in the classroom, as you are able this year.
Thank you for your cooperation and support. I know this will be a great year for us. If you have any questions, please contact me at school, firstname.lastname@example.org
Again, welcome to the new school year! I look forward to meeting everyone at our “Back to School Night” on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5:45-6:30pm.
