Sue Hammond -- Kindergarten

Welcome Kindergarteners and Families!

Dear Kinder Families,

I am so happy to have your child in my kindergarten class!  This is my third year teaching kinder at EBS, and we have an amazing year planned.  I started teaching after I graduated from UCSD, and then I earned my Masters at CSU San Marcos.  I have taught in several schools throughout our district, and have experience with grades K-5.  Working with the youngest students has really grown on me because I get to help cultivate their love of learning and watch them grow by leaps and bounds.

I hope you will have many opportunities to visit our classroom this year.  Many of our regular classroom activities are enhanced by having parent volunteers, and we will have some special celebration days as well.  Our classroom will be a work in progress all year as we chart our learning and add to our walls.  A big focus in our classroom will be to teach students to be independent workers and problem solvers.  One of the most important parts of teaching independence is allowing mistakes to happen.  Mistakes are what give all of us opportunities to learn, especially our youngest learners.

We will be in communication throughout the year.  I will invite you to a classroom website on Shutterfly www.mrshammondskinderclass.shutterfly.com , send home weekly newsletters, and communicate by email, calls, or notes home with other information as necessary.  The best way to reach me is by email, which I check before and after school.  If you need to get an urgent message to me, the best way to do it is to call the office and they will contact me.

During the first weeks of school I will send home a lot of important information about our classroom and school procedures.  Please check your child’s backpack each day to see if any new materials were sent home.  For information about school wide activities please check the EBS website at www.sandiegounified.org/schools/eb-scripps or our AFP website at www.ebs-afp.org

                                                                   Sincerely,

Sue Hammond
