EBS Named California Gold Ribbon School

Gold Ribbon Award

Dear Parents,

I am proud to announce that our school has been named a California Gold Ribbon School by State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson. This award recognizes California schools that have made exceptional gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education for all students, including English Learners. Only five elementary schools (out of 116) in the San Diego Unified School District are being recognized.

"These schools shine as bright beacons for others, putting forth an exemplary effort to ensure that every student is ready for 21st century college and careers," Torlakson said. "California teachers are developing an education model for the nation, training the students of today to be the problem-solvers, inventors, and pioneers of tomorrow."

Our application which went through a year-long review process focused on our teacher training and implementation of the Common Core State Standards. I am pleased to be recognized by the State of California for our exceptional work implementing the CCSS and the resulting achievement of our students. Teachers, staff, students, parents and community members have all worked together to make our transition to Common Core go smoothly and ensure that our academic program is the finest possible. Thank you to every member of the “EBS Team” for supporting our school.

Go Penguins!
