AVID School of Distinction

East Village High School has been named an AVID school of distinction reflecting the excellence of our AVID program and teachers.  AVID is a college preparation program that teaches students the skills necessary to be successful in college and beyond. Schools must meet the highest standards of AVID Certification in order to be awarded this title. It is indicative of our devotion to the AVID program, not just in the elective classroom, but across the content areas.

Parent involvement matters Parent Involvement Opportunities
The School Site Council (SSC) provides parents with the opportunity to be involved in the academic program of the school. SSC Meeting dates are in the school calendar. Other opportunities for involvement at EVHS include volunteering time and expertise, classroom support and office assistance. Chaperoning field trips with teachers is another way for parents to be involved with your school. Volunteer forms are available in the EVHS office.
New 4x4 Block Schedule
EVHS is adopting a 4×4 block schedule the 2018/19 academic year. This schedule divides the year into quarters, and uses a four-period day. The 4×4 method is more flexible in that students can take two sequential classes in the same school year such as integrated math II & III, which would not be possible on a traditional schedule. This also allows students to fail a class and repeat it in the next semester. The schedule also is much more friendly in terms of scheduling students college classes.
New School Calendar
East Village High School is adopting a new calendar more closely aligned to City College this coming 2018/2019 school year. The first day of school is Tuesday August 7th.
