Computers and technology are essential to the world today and will be even more important in the future. Learning to code is a great way for students to learn to think like the machines that they will need to use, understanding the how and why of technology by doing it themselves!
After school on Mondays, the Dana Coder Club will meet to learn coding in Scratch, a computer language developed for kids at MIT. Scratch uses a graphical representation of the Java computer language. Our after school club will teach programming fundamentals like loops and variables, as well as problem solving approaches used to program a computer. Projects will include computer art, math-based art, and interactive games. The club is open to students of any level that can operate a web browser, and priority is given to students NOT enrolled in TSS or Digital Media. The goal is to allow all students, especially those not able to take a computer elective, to explore the art of coding. The class is taught by Tim Lacey, a former Sunset View and Dana parent, who started teaching these classes 4 years ago to open up coding opportunities to younger students.

This form will be available for sign up until January 30th.
If more than 25 students per session sign up for a specific session, names will be drawn by lottery and you will be contacted via email to know if your child is selected to participate in this program. Priority will be given to children not enrolled in Digital Media or Technology Support Services (TSS).
