I am proud of how quickly you adapted in the face of such revolutionary change. We are using this unique experience to practice the art of growing from adversity while modeling to others what it means to be a life-long learner.
Consider life at Dana Middle prior to March 13th. We attended class together, participated in exciting lunch time activities, and socialized with friends in the hallways. We laughed at jokes, smiled when we saw someone important to us, screamed in the haunted hallway, and felt pride when a teacher or friend congratulated us for a job well done. The school closures have reminded us of the value of an inclusive school culture where everyone belongs. COVID-19 created significant change to our daily routine, which is deeply emotional because it threatens our level of safety and security. We discovered new terms like distance learning and social distancing. We learned to socialize with friends in Zoom, laugh at memes we shared via text, and smile at someone important when wearing a mask by using our eyes.
I am proud of our students and staff because we successfully explored distance learning, experimented with new tips and tricks, and tried new concepts. We are modeling to the world what it means to be a life-long learner.
Congratulations Dana Class of 2020!
