Unlike elementary school, secondary teachers do not automatically hold a parent conference with every student. Language Arts and Math teachers at Dana Middle School will hold conferences with the parents of students who are performing below grade level and/or demonstrating emotional/social challenges that negatively impact their performance in class. The parents of students who meet the criteria above will be contacted by their child's teachers. If you are concerned about your student's academic performance, please contact via email the appropriate teacher to arrange for a conference.
School will end at 12:15 PM on Thursday, November 2nd. School will end at 12:17 PM on Wednesday, November 1st, and Friday, November 3rd.
We have recently learned we must extend the length of the school day on Wednesday, November 1st and Friday, November 3rd by two minutes each. We must do this in order to meet the minimum instructional minutes as required by the State of California. We will follow the normal minimum day bell schedule on Wednesday and Friday but will lengthen period 6 by two minutes. School will be dismissed at 12:17 on Wednesday and Friday and 12:15 on Thursday.
Why are we doing this? – We were directed to follow a minimum day schedule on October 23, 24, and 25 as part of the district’s hot weather plan. The California Department of Education will not modify the minimum instructional minutes for Dana for the 2017-18 school year because the Governor of California did not declare a state of emergency. As a result, Pupil Accounting determined we could meet the minimum required minutes by following the schedule above.
