6th Grade Students To Visit Correia Middle Jan. 29th

Dear Parents/Guardians of 6th grade students:

On Tuesday, January 29, 2019, the sixth grade students will take a walking field trip to Correia Middle School for a tour. Students will report to their first period class. After attendance, students will walk with their assigned teacher-chaperone to Correia along a predetermined route. The San Diego Police Department will escort us to Correia and block off streets so students and staff can safely travel the 1.4 mile walk. A permission slip is attached to this letter. Your child must turn in this permission slip to his/her first period teacher to be eligible to go on the walking field trip to Correia Middle. Permission slips must be returned by Thursday, January 24th. Students who do not turn in their permission slip will stay at Dana Middle while the sixth grade teachers and students visit Correia.

Parents are encouraged to attend the tour. We would appreciate your support chaperoning our students as they walk to and from the Correia campus. Once at Correia, parents will participate in a separate parent orientation while students participate in a campus tour. If you are interested in walking with your child to Correia, please email Joey Lepetri at jlepetri@sandi.net. Contact Mr. Lepetri before January 24th to ensure sufficient time for planning on our end.

School tours at Correia are offered every Tuesday throughout the month of March and are open to anyone. Since they are student-run, tours are given during our ASB period and will run from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Please arrive at 10:40 as the tour begins promptly at 10:45 a.m.

While at Correia, students will attend a short planning assembly at which students will learn how to fill out the necessary paperwork for their seventh grade elective. During the assembly, students will preview Correia elective choices. The Correia staff will explain how students can apply for electives that require applications and recommendations because several electives require an application process. For example, ASB, Yearbook, AVID and Video Production require applications.

Students will receive all the necessary paperwork on January 29th immediately after the tour. All paperwork and applications must be turned in to Dana math teachers no later than February 19th. We strongly encourage everyone to meet that deadline. If paperwork is turned in late, students may not get their preferred elective choices.

Please talk with your child about the elective classes offered and help him or her select the top four options. Many students do not receive their first choice due to scheduling conflicts, so it is very important you and your child spend time reading about each elective and their requirements (some electives require a teacher recommendation and application). Make sure the elective cards are turned in to your child’s math teacher by February 19th.

We are excited to offer this opportunity to our students. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
