CPJMA educates children to be critical thinkers and problem solvers in a highly motivating, rigorous environment where academic growth is strengthened by the integration and study of music.
Crown Point Junior Music Academy (CPJMA) is a neighborhood/magnet school located in beautiful Pacific Beach, a neighborhood in San Diego. Students not only come from within our neighborhood boundaries, but also from all over the county to attend our school because of its focus on strong academics through music education.
Our music academy opened its doors in 2008, implementing Suzuki violin. CPJMA is best known for its rigorous academics, increased attendance, bridging the language and cultural gaps, and a music program that has cultivated students who appreciate the visual and performing arts. Our school offers full-day Transitional Kindergarten and currently has one TK class on campus forming the foundation of our school program. We are a TK-fifth grade school, taking students from their ABC's all the way to Pre-Algebra.
Our motto is, "Music Opens Minds." Following that focus we integrate our curriculum with music, for even math and science have musical connections. Music is also taught as its own discipline. Our Suzuki violin instruction, a proven method used worldwide based on the theory that younger children learn languages easily, including the language of music, helps children with their intellectual development as well as musical skill. Parents of students in TK, Kinder, and 1st grade, beginner violins, must participate in the violin program and take lessons twice a week with their child in order to be part of the violin program.
Our staff is dedicated to ensuring that our instructional program is sufficiently rigorous to lead students to become independent readers, mathematicians and scientists for life.
Parents and guardians are an integral part of our educational program. We encourage them to have a voice in our decision-making process and to work with us as we strive to make Crown Point a world-class school.
