Sara Dickman has been a dance educator at Creative Performing Media Arts Middle School since 2003. During this time, Ms. Dickman has built a dance program serving over 400 students each year, including instruction in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and Modern dance. Ms. Dickman’s goal is to provide a quality dance and physical education to all students regardless of their personal circumstances, while building their self-esteem and self-image. The ability to teach dance in a public school is a unique opportunity, where Ms. Dickman strives to provide her students with real life experiences while developing a lifelong appreciation of dance. From beginning to advanced dancers, students of all abilities are welcome in Ms. Dickman’s classroom including those with special needs. In addition to teaching dance, Ms. Dickman also leads the school’s 8th grade student leadership program, Where Everybody Belongs, enabling students to serve as mentors to incoming 6th grade students, runs the school’s recycling program, and is actively involved with committees on campus including the Instructional Leadership Team. Beyond her work at CPMA, Ms. Dickman serves as a teacher and advisory board member for the Dance and Movement Workshop for Educators, a professional development workshop for public school dance teachers. She also dances with California Rhythm Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of tap dance through academic assemblies and performances. Ms. Dickman strives to infuse her passion for life in all she teaches and brings joy and hope to those around her. Ms. Dickman is also honored to have been selected as San Diego Unified's Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2018 and a Finalist for San Diego County Teacher of the Year for the 2019 school year.
