It is a great honor to join “Team Correia” and the Point Loma Cluster community of learners. I am honored to support Mr. McDade, the teaching staff, and support staff at Correia with an enthusiastic focus on delivering high quality instruction while providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that nurtures social, emotional, and academic learning for all Correia students. The Point Loma Cluster is unique in our commitment to vertical articulation among the K-12 schools. Correia plays a significant role as the gateway between students' elementary and high school experiences.
After receiving a Master’s Degree from New York University in 1989, I migrated to San Diego and moved into a beach bungalow in Ocean Beach. Ironically, my very first job offer in San Diego Unified was to teach Spanish at Correia Jr. High. Over the past 24 years, I have enjoyed serving the students and teachers in SDUSD in a variety of leadership roles, most recently as resource teacher for Physical Education, Health and Athletics. As a National Board Certified teacher I am committed to helping teachers find creative ways to increase student engagement and maximize student achievement.
The winds of change are upon us. I see the Common Core State Standards as an opportunity to raise the bar for teaching and learning across the district. Students will have increased opportunities to think critically and problem solve, communicate their thinking orally and in writing, collaborate with classmates, and create and innovate. Only through a strong collaboration with Correia parents and administrators around the Common Core can we help our children prepare to be successful in the competitive global economy. My motto is, “We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust our sails”.
In addition to my passion for sailing, mountain biking, hiking, photography and beach combing in our San Diego paradise, I enjoy traveling to my ‘other paradise’ on the east coast to visit my wonderful family in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
