Dear Parent or Guardian of Prospective Students,
I am excited to write this letter to tell you about the amazing, innovative things we are doing at Clairemont High School.
First, allow me to introduce myself. I am Dr. Jennifer Roberson, Principal at Clairemont High School. This year marks my 16th year in education where I have diligently worked to ensure students are well served so they succeed in school and ultimately in the college and/or career of their choice. As the principal at Clairemont, you have found an advocate and supporter of quality, well rounded, and rigorous educational programs that prepare students for their future.
The unique thing about Clairemont High is that while are a comprehensive high school with all the programs, athletics, and clubs of a traditional campus, we also provide a personalized Linked Learning experience for students by offering four curricular Academy Pathways focused around carefully-selected, high-growth industry fields: (1) Business (2) Engineering Design (3) Health & Medical Sciences (4) Information Technology.
In 2014, CHS was chosen to become a Linked Learning Demonstration Site. Linked Learning is state-wide initiative with a proven approach to education that combines college-focused academics, work-based learning, and intensive student supports. By centering high school around industry themes, learning in all classes becomes relevant and applicable. At CHS, we choose to implement Linked Learning through the academy model. An academy is a personalized, “family” environment of peers, teachers, and industry partners. Students focus on an industry pathway of choice by taking career-themed courses. Students also stay together with peers in their academy for several periods each day, over four years, and get to know their academy team of teachers. All incoming Chieftains select an Academy Pathway for their four-year educational experience at Clairemont.
We believe that our academies provide a richer, more personalized learning environment where students will be motivated to graduate with the skills and confidence to succeed in college, career, and life. Clairemont has secured numerous partners to support our Linked Learning. Some of the most notable include: community partners such as The Moxie Foundation and ConnectEd California; university partners such as UC San Diego, San Diego State University, University of San Diego, Mesa College and National University; and industry partners such as California Coast Credit Union, State Farm Insurance, UCSD Medical, Kaiser Permanente, SPAWAR, Qualcomm, SDG&E, and Managed Solution, to name a few.
We are excited about what we have to offer incoming Chieftains and we hope you are, too!
Dr. Jennifer Roberson
