Parent letter

Dear Families,

Welcome to second grade! My name is Isabel Ramirez and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to working with you and your child. I know this year will be full of wonderful learning experiences for all of us. I hope that we can work together to make sure your child reaches great academic achievement and social well-being this year.

My goal this year is to help the students become independent learners and critical thinkers. As a result, I have set very high expectations for them in the classroom and at home. One way in which you can help your child’s be successful at school is by providing him/her with a designated place and time to do his/her homework. Homework will be assigned daily and may consist of the following: math, literacy, and 20 minutes of reading. Students will receive a Homework Calendar/Behavior Report at the beginning of each week in which they will be responsible for writing down their daily homework every day. The purpose of this Homework Calendar/Behavior Report is for the students to learn how to organize themselves, as well as for you to see your child’s behavior each day. It is extremely important that you check and sign it EVERYDAY because it lets me know that you have checked and made sure that your child completed the homework, as well as that you are aware of his/her behavior in class. Students may lose recess when homework is not completed. Remember that homework is an important habit that the students need to develop giving them the opportunity to practice the skills and concepts that are learned in class.

Students may use the restroom during class as needed, but please remind your child to use the restroom before school, during recess/lunch, and/or afterschool to avoid interruptions to instruction. Back to School Night this year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24 from 5:30 to 6:30pm. I hope you can come!

Communication is essential between the school and the home. If you need to communicate with me do so by any of the following ways: by calling the school’s main office at (619)362-3200 to leave a message, via email at iramirez@sandi.net, or by writing a message on the comments section of the Behavior Report to pre-arrange a meeting afterschool. If you feel that there is information regarding your child that I should be aware of, please let me know. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and support.
