Two Challenger Students Accepted!

Congratulations to two of our Challenger students, Nathan Kaplan and Janine Petalber, for their acceptance into the 2017 California All-State Junior High School Symphonic Band!  This is the top of the two All-State Bands available for middle school students.

These trumpeters were selected among hundreds of audtionees.  They completed an online audition by submitting recorded scales and excerpts to California Band Director Association (CBDA) in December.  So they can practice on their own time, accepted students receive their music ahead of the All-State weekend and then practice as an ensemble in San Jose.  This music is some of the most challenging repertoire for middle school students.  All-State Honor Ensembles are conducted by master clinicians from around the world.  Their conductor will be Mr. Michael Boitz from Saratoga High School from the San Jose area.

The Junior High School Symphonic Band performs on Sunday, February 19 at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.  This free performance coincides with the California All-State Music Educators Conference (CASMEC) which brings together music teachers from all disciplines across the state of California for an extended weekend of concerts, clinics, and development, that aims to strengthen music education throughout the state.

This is the third year in a row that Challenger has had students accepted into All-State Honor Ensembles.  We are very proud our students who take that extra step in their musicianship.
