The Tech Trek camps are sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The goal of AAUW with the Tech Trek program is to inspire girls to attend college and select a career in one of the Science, Tehnology, Engineering, Math (STEM) fields. They fundraise all year long to provide these opportunities for our budding science and math students.
Science teacher, Mr. Cook led the way by asking Challenger teachers to nominate seventh grade girls who might benefit from the program. Their parents were invited to an evening informational meeting to learn about the week-long Tech Trek camp and the application process. Interested students were invited to attend writing workshop taught by Lyn Kagey, the Tech Trek Coordinator for Cabrillo-Diego AAUW. After the student profiles and essays were submitted students were selected to be interviewed by three members of the Cabrillo-Diego AAUW. Needless to say, the panel of volunteers found it very difficult to narrow down their selections because our students are so awesome!
We are very proud to announce that the following students will attend spend a week attending special workshops while they stay at the dorms at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). The camp is valued at nearly $1000 per student. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
