As part of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), which helps determine monies sent to our district by the state, students in grade 7 and all parents are asked to complete a survey. The surveys are completely anonymous. The students will complete the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) in their social studies class between April 30-May 4. Parents are asked to complete the California School Parent Survey (CSPS) in English, Spanish, or Chinese at this link. If you have more than one child at Challenger, please think about the oldest of the children when completing the survey. If you prefer, you may request a paper copy of the survey at the Counseling Center. Languages available: English, Arabic, Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese.

The CHKS surveys students statewide and covers topics related to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, bullying, and other health issues such as school climate and student resiliency. The survey data will assist schools in preventing youth health-risk behaviors, promoting positive youth development, fostering positive school climates, and developing family engagement plans. This survey is different than the ones that Challenger’s PBIS committee asked you to complete. The information gathered from this survey is now part of the California State Dashboard for Local and State Indicators and your participation is very important to.
If you would like to exclude your 7th grade student from taking the survey, please contact Sally Tom by April 23 at firstname.lastname@example.org or 858-586-7001, extension 2213. You may also request a paper copy of the parent survey from Ms. Tom. Thank you very much your extra time and effort to help us improve our school climate.
